Marietta College is an independent not-for-profit 501(c) (3) institution that relies primarily on revenues from tuition, fees, room and board to fund its educational programs. The table below shows current primary tuition, fees, room, and board rates for undergraduate programs. Other non-schedule fees may apply. Tuition and fees for graduate programs are shown in the Graduate Programs section of this catalog.
Billing Procedure
Each student at the College is assigned a student account as the basis for financial transactions between the College and the student. The College bills each term separately and the student will be notified via Marietta College email when the bill is available for viewing online. The College does not issue paper statements.
Student accounts are password protected in order to provide for security and confidentiality of the information therein. Students can access current account information by clicking the Self-Service link on their MyMarietta webpage or by going directly to selfservice.marietta.edu.
Students also may give their parents/guardians or other designated individuals access to select information, including the student account, within Self-Service. Detailed instructions for granting proxy access can be found at https://www.marietta.edu/sites/default/files/documents/MC_Color_proxy_guide.pdf
Once the proxy is added, they will have access to only the information that the student has granted permission. If a parent/guardian or other third-party calls with billing questions, requests a balance due, or general billing information, we cannot and will not release that information unless they are a proxy or we have a valid authorization to release information (i.e., FERPA waiver) on file with the Records Office.
In most cases, enrollment in the Pioneer Payment Plan and timely completion of payments under the Plan satisfies your financial obligations to the College. The cost of books, clothing, and incidentals are not included on the student's bill with the exception of digital textbooks purchased through the Inclusive Access program. A student may NOT move into residence halls, participate in meal plans, participate in any extra-curricular activities, or start classes until all financial obligations to the College have been satisfied in the form of payment in full or payments made by the due date specified on their Pioneer Payment Plan.
Enrollment, class registration, and release of diplomas may occur only if all financial obligations to the College are satisfied.
To facilitate payments on the student account, the College provides several payment methods. The Cashier’s Office accepts cash, check, and credit card payments (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). In addition, credit card and electronic check payments may be made through the student account via Self-Service.
A non-refundable convenience fee will be assessed for all credit or debit card payments. Marietta College does not keep any part of the convenience fee. The fee is charged and collected by a third-party processor contracted by the College to provide credit card processing services for student accounts.
Check payments should be made out to Marietta College and mailed to:

Payment Options
Pioneer Payment Plan
This plan allows a student who has an out-of-pocket balance for the semester to pay the amount owed in four installments during the semester. The Pioneer Payment Plan has a $75 enrollment fee. All students with an out-of-pocket balance are automatically enrolled, with the exception of continuing students who have been notified of ineligibility due to prior noncompliance.
Pioneer Payment Plan Terms and Conditions:
- Miscellaneous charges incurred after enrollment in payment plan will result in recalculation of monthly payment amount.
- All required payments must be made in a timely manner to remain in the payment plan.
Termination of the plan will require the student to pay the full outstanding balance to avoid being administratively withdrawn from the college.
- Payments not made according to the due dates may affect participation in the payment plan for future semesters.
- A $60.00 late payment fee applies for all payments applied after due date.
- There will be a $45 Fee for Returned/Rejected Payments
- Fall Due Dates: Aug. 1, Sept. 1, Oct. 1, Nov. 1
- Spring Due Dates: Jan. 2, Feb. 1, Mar. 1, Apr. 1 (subject to change)
- All previous term balances must be paid in full before entering into a new payment plan.
Payment in Full
Students who pay the bill in full on or before the due date will not be charged the Pioneer Payment Plan enrollment fee. The due date for the fall semester is August 1st and is January 2nd for the spring semester.
Private Loans
Many students prefer to obtain private financial assistance to pay for tuition. The College cooperates fully with all banks and other financial institutions engaged in student financing. All outside financing must be completed by payment due dates or late charges will apply. (Semester Due Dates: Aug. 1 and Jan. 2)
Billing Following Change in Enrollment Status
Students who drop from full-time (12 or more credit-hours) to part-time (fewer than 12 credit-hours) within the first two full weeks of classes will be charged the per-hour tuition rate. Any financial aid awards will be adjusted to reflect the change in status.
Adjustments will not be made to a student’s account tuition and course fees after the first two weeks of classes due to withdrawing from one or more courses* that results in a change from full-time to part-time status. These credits remain in the billable course load and may result in overload fees if additional credits are added for the same term. Likewise, overload fees will not be pro-rated nor refunded for full-term courses dropped after the first two weeks of classes.
*If one or more late-start courses is dropped prior to the start of the course and the drop results in a reduction to part-time status, both the tuition charges and any applicable aid will be recalculated as outlined above.
Billing Following Withdrawal
A student who officially withdraws or is withdrawn from the college within the first five weeks of a fall or spring semester may be eligible for a partial refund/credit of charges. A withdrawal or leave of absence is official only when the student formally notifies the College by completion of the necessary steps through the Records Office or when the student is administratively withdrawn for conduct or academic reasons.
The effective date of withdrawal or leave determines the proportion of tuition, student fees, housing, and meal plan charges to be credited. During the first week of the semester, 90 percent; second week, 80 percent; third week, 70 percent; fourth week, 60 percent; fifth week, 50 percent. The College will offer no refund or credit after the fifth week of classes. The effective date is determined by completion of the withdraw/leave process and completion of move-out from the residence hall (if applicable) and not by the date of departure or the last date of academic activity. However, the last date of academic activity will be used in determining the amount of financial aid earned. (See below.)
After the withdrawal or leave has been officially recorded, the residence hall has been inspected for damages (if applicable), and any applicable financial adjustments have been applied, the student would receive a refund only if the amount paid exceeds the adjusted semester charges. If the student has not paid more than the adjusted charges, they will receive a final bill within 45 days.
Payments to Federal and State Financial Assistance Programs
Special rules govern repayments to government financial aid programs when a student withdraws before the end of the term, fails to begin enrollment of registered classes, or stops participating in registered classes prior to completion of 60% of the semester. Please refer to the Withdrawal, Refunds, and Your Financial Aid section, in this Catalog.
Insurance
International Student Insurance
All international students must participate in the College International student insurance plan unless the student can show to the satisfaction of the Office of Student Accounts that the student is covered by a plan in the home country that provides equal or near equal coverage in the U.S. The College plan requires deductibles and copays. It provides benefits for physician office and hospital visits, testing, treatment, and medicine associated with an injury/ illness. For more information on the insurance plan, students should contact the Director of Education Abroad.
Personal Property Insurance
The College does not provide insurance coverage or reimbursements for loss of students’ personal property at the College or while on trips. The College encourages families to review their homeowner’s or renter’s policies to determine if their personal property is covered while at Marietta College. Many insurance providers offer a rider to the primary policy to insure personal property away from home.
