Air Force ROTC

The Marietta College ROTC program is offered in partnership with Air Force ROTC Detachment 650 at Ohio University.

US Air Force and Space Force ROTC is a college program that allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree while training to obtain an officer commission in the US Air Force or Space Force. This 4-year program is divided into the General Military Course (GMC) for freshmen and sophomores, and the Professional Officer Course (POC) for juniors and seniors. The first two years do not require a service obligation (unless on scholarship), and cadets can expect to spend about 5-6 hours weekly at the Ohio University campus completing aerospace studies classes, leadership laboratories, and physical training. In addition, one summer field training encampment is required between sophomore and junior years. Juniors “contract" following completion of field training and incur a service commitment which requires them to enter the military. Cadets who finish the program graduate and commission as 2nd lieutenants, then enter active duty, the military reserve component, or the Air National Guard.

Cadets earn academic credit for each semester of participation in the program. Additionally, students accepted into the AFROTC program may choose to pursue the Aerospace Studies minor and/or to apply the academic credits associated with the ROTC training toward the Experiential Education graduation requirement by also completing LEAD 342.
