Academic Standing

Enrollment Status

A MAT student is considered full-time when carrying a 9 credit hour load or more. Half-time status is defined as at least 5 credit hours but fewer than 9.

Probation, Extension, and Academic Dismissal

Academic probation and/or dismissal of a MAT student is determined by the department faculty and the College Provost. To remain in good academic standing, normal progress in didactic and laboratory courses requires all students to earn a B or better and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 in the professional program.

A student earning below a B in any particular component of a course will remediate the identified deficient area. The specific remediation plan will be developed at the discretion of the course instructor. A student earning below a B as a final course grade in any MAT course will be dismissed from the program.

A student may appeal a decision of dismissal to the Graduate Council. Students who submit an appeal and have it granted by the Graduate Council or College Provost will remain on academic probation and will be dismissed again in the instance of a grade below a B in any graduate course.
