GEOL 410 Geology Field Camp
Geology Field camp is a 5-week, intensive summer
field methods course, typically taught in the
Rocky Mountain region, taught in coordination
with Albion College. Experience in geologic
mapping is the main goal of the course with
instruction focused on traditional field
methods: mapping on topographic and aerial photo
bases at a variety of scales is central to our
instruction. Students are also introduced to
modern electronic mapping techniques, such as
GPS-assisted digital mapping. Students also gain
experience in taking detailed field notes,
measuring stratigraphic sections, onstructing
geologic cross-sections, deciphering geologic
structures, and writing geologic reports.
