7. The Residency Requirement
No less than 25% of the minimum credit hours required for the bachelor's degree must be completed in residence* at Marietta College. This includes:
- no fewer than 18 hours in the discipline of the major completed in residence;
- no fewer than 6 hours in a minor, if applicable, completed in residence;
- no fewer than 6 hours in a certificate, if applicable, completed in residence;
- no more than 15 hours earned in transfer after completion of 58 credits or initial matriculation at Marietta College, whichever is later.
- Pre-approval is required from the Registrar, in consultation with the academic advisor, for any transfer credits taken after completion of 58 credit hours (or matriculation for transfer students enrolling at junior or senior standing).
- Approval will be granted only for students who can demonstrate a need for external credits to remain on track for degree completion.
- The Registrar will consult, as needed, with appropriate department chair to ensure that the external course(s) will fulfill the desired requirements.
Currently enrolled students planning to transfer in hours prior to completion of 58 credits should consult with the Assistant Registrar to confirm that the transfer credits will apply as expected.
*Credit hours earned through an approved consortium agreement, including approved off-campus study, are considered to be in residence.
