Transfer Credit – Enrolled Students

Marietta students who wish to take courses elsewhere for possible transfer of credit to Marietta College should secure advanced approval through the Records Office. Additionally, pre-approval is required from the Registrar, in consultation with the academic advisor, for any transfer credits taken after completion of 58 credit hours (or matriculation for transfer students enrolling at junior or senior standing) and will be granted only for students who can demonstrate a need for external credits to remain on track for degree completion.

A grade of “C” or better is required for transfer. The credit hours transferred in will be shown as transfer credits on the student’s Marietta College transcript and can be used to satisfy the credit hour and applicable course requirement for graduation. However, the grades earned for transferred courses are not included in computing the student’s cumulative or program grade point average for the Marietta College degree. Transfer hours do not count as hours “in residence.” Students planning to transfer in credits are reminded of the College’s Residency Requirement for graduation.

Credit hours transferred in from an institution following a quarter or a unit program will be converted to semester hours. Details can be obtained from the Records Office.

Credit will not be granted for transfer credit completed by full-time Marietta College students in a Fall or Spring semester in which the course was available at Marietta College.

Consortial Credit

Marietta College is pleased to partner with Acadeum and the Consortium of Independent Colleges (CIC) to expand upon our Summer and Winter Session Offerings. Acadeum is a course-sharing platform that allows Marietta students to enroll in online, asynchronous courses offered by accredited institutions with similar missions and curricula. Consortium courses are considered “in residence” in that the grade earned will be recorded on the MC transcript and included in grade point average calculations. As such, unlike transfer credit, the grade earned through consortium courses may be used for academic recovery by replacing a prior unsuccessful attempt of the same course. Additionally, consortium credits may be considered in the enrollment status for financial aid calculations.

Acadeum courses taken in summer or winter sessions are billed at the standard summer/winter tuition rate.

In select cases, Acadeum course offerings may be made available upon request during the fall or spring semester with approval from the Registrar. The basis for approval will determine whether the course will be made available as part of the full-time billing courseload or if additional tuition charges will apply.

Students who have consulted with their academic advisor and have determined that a fall or spring Acadeum course may be necessary for degree completion should contact the Registrar for more information on the approval process and related costs.
