EDUC 285 Principles of Math

Principles of Mathematics is designed to provide teacher candidates with a deeper understanding of the mathematics they will teach in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eight as aligned with Common Core State Standards and Ohio Learning Standards for Mathematics. Common areas for remediation of incomplete learning, as well as methods to support progress toward mastery of these concepts, are also covered. The course emphasizes conceptual development and a deep understanding of the foundations of mathematical principles, logic, and reasoning to support teacher candidates with the ability to teach content conceptually. There is a focus on error analysis as a means to understand non-standard methods grade PK - 8 students may use and to evaluate those methods for conceptual accuracy.
