CHEM 380 The Professional Chemist
This course focuses on in-depth study of the chemical literature along with the development of skills required in chemically-related careers, including the health professions. During the first portion of the course, students will learn how to best prepare themselves for employment and postgraduate education, including development of their curriculum vitae, creation of personal statements, and development/practicing of interview skills . In the second portion of the course, emphasis will be placed on locating, reading, and understanding scientific literature related to their chosen profession. Students will be expected to critically analyze this literature in informal class discussions along with presenting their analysis in formal oral and written formats. This course meets the criteria for a Communication Proficiency designation. (Note to CC: This last sentence is premature pending approval of the course as a CP designation, but ultimately we can hopefully include it.)
