PIO-Pioneer Path

Associate Provost for the Undergraduate Curriculum: Dr. Suzanne H. Walker

(Suzanne.Walker@marietta.edu)

The Pioneer Path lies at the core of the Marietta College liberal arts philosophy. The Pioneer Path provides a common intellectual experience for students. Common intellectual experiences have identified as high impact practices that aid in student learning and success. The Marietta College faculty believes an integrated core is a necessary component of the curriculum that will add significant value to the educational experience.

The Pioneer Path courses are required as part of the College’s General Education degree requirements. Once enrolled in PIO 101, PIO 102, FYE 112, WRIT 101 or 102, or COMM 203, these courses cannot be dropped. Transfer students who matriculate at Marietta College with 25 or more transfer credits, excluding credits earned while enrolled in high school, are exempt from the PIO 101/102 requirement but may choose to enroll in PIO 102 to assist with acclimation to the Marietta campus.
