POLS 330 International Organizations
Although states continue to be major actors in world politics, contemporary challenges are often transnational in nature and necessitate the development of international institutions to address them. Through the creation of shared institutions, often in the form of international organizations, many scholars and political practitioners contend that it is possible to govern a complex global system in the absence of a singular sovereign authority. This course investigates theoretical and political foundations of international institutions, considers the development, structure, and activities of prominent international organizations, and evaluates how these organizations have approached issues, disputes, and crises facing the international system.
