PUB 201 Introduction to Public History
This course is an introduction to Public History and includes an experiential form of learning and research. Public history is a method that is practiced with the intention of blending theory and experience as well as understanding the challenges of presenting history to a diverse audience. Throughout the semester, discussions and exercises that build on the skills of the historian to better understand the role of a Public Historian. The class will focus on the problems of shifting collective memory, competing constituencies, shrinking resources, methods of interpretation, and the identification of modem relevance in the modem world. Thus, practice and experience over the traditional classroom setting will be emphasized in this class.
