THEA 342 Costume Design
The course will cover an introduction to costume design and its process including script analysis, research, conceptualization, critical thinking, rendering, swatching, and plotting/planning. Areas of study will include characterization; aesthetics- the visual language of design within the visual language of the theatre; using the elements of design- color, texture, form, scale, etc.; stylization; the interpretation and manipulation of historical and cultural research- modes, manners and behavior; practical tools- costume plots, sketches, etc. group plates, detail plates, calendars, brushes, paper- mixed media, invention, creativity and boundless self expression.
