UG Freshman Admission

Individuals who have not attended a prior post-secondary institution after graduating from high school, excluding the summer immediately following high school graduation, must meet the following requirements:

  1. Submit a completed online Application (Common Application or MC’s online application)
  2. Official certificate of graduation or academic transcript from an accredited secondary school (or its equivalent) and a satisfactory scholastic record, ideally with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
    1. Certificate of graduation or academic transcript must be sent directly from the high school to the Marietta College (MC) Admissions Office to be considered official.
    2. b. In instances when an applicant earned college credit while also attending high school, an official transcript from each college/university attended must also be submitted to the MC Admissions Office.
    3. In instances when an applicant is home-schooled, a record of academic work, portfolio, or journal descriptions of academic work, and a copy of the school district superintendent's acknowledgment of the parent's notification of home education may be submitted instead of an official transcript.
  3. Completion of 16* academic units of secondary school work in a College Preparatory Program, including:
    1. 4 units of English
    2. 2 units of foreign language
    3. 3 units of college preparatory mathematics
    4. 2 units of laboratory science
    5. 1 unit of social science
    6. other units approved by an accredited secondary school.

    The College may make exceptions for applicants who show strong academic promise but who may not meet all of the academic units. Students living in states that require proficiency examinations for graduation must present evidence of passing such examinations.

  4. A letter of recommendation which may come from a Guidance Counselor or teacher
    1. Home-schooled applicants are required to submit 2 letters of recommendation which may come from a teacher, employer, or community member.
  5. Essay
  6. Standardized test scores are not required; however, first-year students may choose to send the Scholastic Aptitude Test (www.collegeboard.com) or American College Test (www.act.org) scores if they want them considered as part of the admissions review. Registration forms for either of these examinations are available online and at individual high schools. Official scores must be sent to the Marietta College Admissions Office to be eligible for consideration.
