Big Blue Practicum
The Big Blue practicum utilizes the Big Blue Thrift Store on the campus of Marietta College as a laboratory for students who would like to put their business-related skills into practice and acquire new skills while maintaining a high-functioning non-profit business organization. The Big Blue Practicum is a 1 to 3 credit hour course that is open to all Marietta College students who have completed at least 30 college-level credit hours, regardless of their major. This course is not open to freshmen, as freshmen are not expected to be prepared to put the knowledge they gain in their college-level courses into practice. Students may take the course up to 2 times, a maximum of 6 credit hours. To register for this course, students must apply for one of the various positions at the store by submitting a resume and completing an application form during the semester prior to the semester they would like to take the course. Depending on their experience and their position at the Big Blue Thrift Store, each student will sign an individualized learning contract that resemble an employment contract and specifies their responsibilities and how their performance will be evaluated.
The course level (i.e., 227, 327, 427) will be determined by the instructor based on the student's experience and position assigned at the Big Blue Thrift Store.
