WRIT 314 Writing for Children & Young Adults

Writing for Children and Young Adults is designed to give students the knowledge and skills necessary to write for young people across several genres.  Though traditional writing programs often overlook work written for young people, writing for this audience requires precision, command of language, and empathy.  This course will explore the unique characteristics of children’s literature; its emphasis on perspective, diversity, and hope, and we will also work to hone students’ writing skills in the areas of picturebook, poetry, and graphic novel.
