EDUC 632 Literacy Instruction for English Learner

This course will develop knowledge of the, development of language and literacy skills for, English Learners, with connections to the, instructional implications of the science of, reading. Educators will learn about how reading, develops in the bilingual brain, as well, as the similarities and differences between, monolingual and multilingual learners. Major skill, domains (word recognition and language, comprehension) that contribute to the development, of reading comprehension are explored, with, explicit connections to the language skills of, English Learners. The principles of explicit and, systematic instruction will be applied to all, aspects of instruction for English Learners, with, a specific focus on the cultural, linguistic, and, ethnic differences among learners, ensuring that, the course content extends beyond theoretical to, practical application for students.
